Human Samurai Fighter: Chen Kenichi
Backstory
Chen Kenichi comes from the Eastern continent. This continent is a fractured continent always in a state of conflict. The Empire Chen comes from is one of the smaller empires on the continent, The Saizen Empire.  The larger powers of the continent were practically always at war with one another over disputing ancient claims to bordering lands and petty quibbles that over generations became serious conflicts.
Chen loved to cook from a young age, when Chen was conscripted into the imperial army, Chen also worked as a cook in the army. Chen was in the Army commanded by Opa Nobunaga. During a siege defence, the Outposts’ Champion Samurai were all defeated in single combat, Chen volunteered to champion a duel for the castle and miraculously was victorious hence held off the enemy advance long enough for reinforcements to arrive, for his valiant actions Chen was granted Samurai-hood.
After a series of campaigns Chen quickly rose through the ranks to become a Champion Samurai for Opa Nobunaga’s army. Even with all his new found duties and stature, Chen still did not neglect his passion for cooking, still cooking for his fellow soldiers and samurai and experimenting with new foods and techniques.
Soon after during an intense campaign against the most warring faction on the continent (DM can decide), things were not going well. The enemy had breached the city walls and things have now turned into an all-out brawl in the city streets reaching the royal palace. Opa Nobunaga and his elite guard were are all that were left protecting the Emperor. After several hours of combat, a small group of enemy samurai broke through and killed the emperor, Opa Nobunaga was also mortally wounded in the exchange. Seeing there was nothing he could do and in shame, Chen carried Opa Nobunaga and fled the palace to a nearby house to lay low in.
Chen could not save Opa, he did his best to stop any bleeding, but to not much effect. In his dying moments, Opa revealed to Chen that the emperor had an older brother that gave up his claim to the throne and for that was exiled, moving to another continent (the continent we are playing on). Opa makes Chen swear that he will find him and restore him to the throne of Saizen no matter what. At the same time Opa passes Chen his Katana, telling him that the prince will recognise the katana and also showing him a secret compartment in the swords hilt with a message from the exiled prince with information on where he has settled and started a family on the new continent.
Chen stayed around in the Saizen empire for a couple of weeks laying low, gathering what information he could about the occupation of the capital city. After a couple of close encounters Chen decides to leave the city and starts his journey towards the new continent. Several months of travel on land and ship pass by as Chen makes it to the new continent, beginning the quest his Shogun gave him with his last breath. Following the note, asking around and looking for clues Chen could not find the exiled prince and his family. Chen searched for 6 months to no prevail, Chen had found that a few years back the town which the prince had settled was attacked and ransacked, many inhabitants perished and those who survived moved away from this region leaving no trail for Chen to follow.
Running low on funds and willpower Chen was forced to put the quest on hold and gather himself first on this new and strange continent. Moving from town to town offering his blacksmithing or culinary services in trade for food and shelter and searching for the exiled prince in his down time. This continued on for many long and hard years, eventually Chen’s stay in each town drew out longer and longer as his will to continue in this quest faded more and more as the seasons came and went.
Now some 10 years since the fall of the Saizen Empire, Chen has all but given up on his quest for the exiled prince. He now works as the head chef …..
